The Governor of St Helena’s official residence at Plantation House still retains one of Napoleon’s chandeliers, whilst one of the island’s small hotels, Farm Lodge, claims to have a chaise longue from Longwood House. This section officially opens 15 October 2015, the 200th anniversary of Napoleon’s arrival. The UK-St Helena Heritage Trust (formerly the British Napoleonic Bicentenary Trust) exists to promote public education on - and preservation of - the built and cultural heritage of the British Overseas Territory of St Helena. Apart from the question of his title, this requirement was to become perhaps the bitterest cause of dispute between Napoleon and the Governor and was to have serious consequences for his health.
